Useful advice

It is recommended to bring along bathing shoes or to buy some in a local shop.

Most beaches in Croatia are leveled, but the seafloor is usually covered with larger pebbles and stones.

In addition, sea urchins romp about near the beach, and if you go into the water without bathing shoes, you must absolutely take care not to step on them.

Otherwise this might be a very painful experience.

If you prefer to sleep with the window open (which will probably be the case in summer), bring enough autan spray or cream for the whole family.

General Information.

Croatia's coastline has a length of 5835 km, of which 4058 km are island's coasts and reefs.

Of the 1185 islands and reefs, 50 are inhabited. The largest islands are Cres and Krk.

In Croatia two climate zones exist. In the inland, temperate continental climate predominates, partly mountain climate as well, while in the coastal regions enjoyable mediterranean climate with a lot of sunny days prevails. The summers are dry and hot, the winters are mild and humid. The average temperature in the inland is 0° to 2°C in January and 19° to 28°C in August. At the coast the temperature averages 6° to 11°C in January and 21° to 27°C in August, the mean water temperature lies at 12°C in winter and 25°C in summer.

The Croatian currency is the Kuna (KN); 1 Kuna = 100 Lipa. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks, exchange offices, post offices as well as at most travel agencies, hotels, marinas and camping sites.
